The Achievable Clinic

In 2008, the Board of Directors of Achievable realized the growing issue of lack of quality healthcare for individuals with developmental disabilities. Studies showed that people with developmental disabilities suffered from health disparities because of difficulty finding, accessing and paying for primary and specialty health care services. Since then, Achievable has focused on improving access to healthcare for our community members, including by starting our own comprehensive community health center.

The Achievable Clinic will be a leader in providing high quality, comprehensive and coordinated health care to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families throughout the Los Angeles region.

We will start and operate a fully licensed community health center to provide a complete range of vital, high quality primary and specialty healthcare services to thousands of children and adults with developmental disabilities across Los Angeles.

Our clinic will operate using the Patient Centered Medical Home model of care and will be led by highly trained and caring medical and support staff, committed to long-term, positive health outcomes for our clinic patients.

People with developmental disabilities suffer from high rates of poor health, chronic illness and preventable death. But despite their complex health needs, these individuals are less likely to have access to quality health care.

Economic disparities, few health care providers willing or trained to work with our clients, low Medi-Cal and Medicare reimbursement rates and a fragmented health care system are some of the obstacles to receiving quality care necessary to improve long-term health.

Several health care providers have stepped up to meet the needs of other underserved populations in Los Angeles. However, there is no provider in the area trying to develop a clinic focusing on the unmet health care needs of the people we serve. The Achievable Clinic will be the first of its kind.

Achievable has worked hard to open The Achievable Clinic as a Licensed Community Health Clinic (LCHC) and Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), and is providing coordinated primary and specialty care to individuals and their families.

The clinic is located on the 4th floor of the same building as Westside Regional Center, allowing for a familiar place for the people we serve to get their health care, as well as social services and other supports.

The Achievable Clinic's specific goals:

1) Raise enough funds to outfit and operate The Achievable Clinic;

2) Obtain California community clinic licensing;

3) Begin operating the clinic with a full complement of primary care and specialty care services;

4) Develop a sustainable model of clinical care that exceeds quality benchmarks and can be replicated statewide;

5) And share results, best practices and lessons learned to other organizations serving individuals with developmental disabilities.

The Achievable Clinic officially opened its doors September 2013, and is a Licensed Community Health Center (LCHC) and Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).
